SHAH ALAM: The new Selangor administration will only be known in a few days as Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wants to see a strong coalition.
Mentri Besar-designate Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the Sultan of Selangor said this to him during his more than an hour-long audience with the Ruler that began at 4.38pm at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Section 12 here.
He said a representative each from the DAP and PAS would meet the Sultan separately tomorrow.
“Sultan Sharafuddin wants to meet the representatives face to face, listen to their views, and offer his advice,” he said.
Khalid, who is PKR secretary-general, added that the Sultan would also listen to the views of the royal adviser and a state official before giving his blessing to the formation of a strong coalition government.
“Sultan Sharafuddin is concerned with the current state of affairs and wants to see good governance. I wholeheartedly agree with his advice on meeting the representatives and on the appointment of the Mentri Besar, as it is in the best interest of the state and the rakyat in Selangor,” he said.
Khalid, who won the Ijok state seat, added that the tentative list of names of state executive councillors would also be handed to the Sultan for his approval after the appointment of the Mentri Besar.
On speculation that some government servants at the state secretariat were shredding government documents, Khalid said: “We believe that government servants are responsible people and would not resort to unnecessary measures. We can’t be suspicious of just anyone. Just think good of all.”
“Civil servants must understand that politicians come and go, but civil servants will continue to work. In fact, official documents can’t be shredded completely, as it is not just one or two pieces. There are a few thousand pages and hundreds of bound copies.”
